Pro-freedom leaders under house arrest

Srinagar: The authorities have placed the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other pro-freedom leaders under house arrest to prevent them from leading a rally to lay foundation stone of "Martyrs Memorial Wall" at Eidgah.
"We are framing our reply to the crubs implemented by the government," the Mirwaiz said.

Besides the APHC chairman, those who have been put under house arrest include Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Bilal Ghani Lone, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Zafar Akbar Butt.

JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik told Kashmir Dispatch that he was placed under house arrest Friday evening by the state authorities.
Reports said police arrested the senior Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front-R, Farooq Ahmed Dar from his residence and shifted him to a police station.
Mirwaiz Friday had announced to lay foundation stone of “Martyr’s Memorial Wall” in remembrance of martyrs at Eidgah in old city here.
“We had announced to lay the martyr’s memorial wall on July 13, 2007. But the government did not allow it. Insha-Allah (Good willing) we will lay the foundation stone tomorrow to member tens and thousands of martyrs,” Mirwaiz had told a gathering while delivering Friday sermon at historic Jamia Masjid here.
Martyrs graveyard, the main venue of Hurriyat programme was turned into a fortress with heavy presence of troops and police. Dozens of barricades were laid along the routes and at many places concertina wires and armored vehicles were used to block the roads, leading to the venue.
